Balloon Fiesta?
40s Dance at the Industrial Museum?

Taunton on Friday?
WCS on Sunday?

We're tripping off to Exeter on Saturday to see a friend who sings with a Big Band. Supported by 2 DJs  :)

Oh I wouldn't call it a wasteland - 5 hours of free classes followed by a full swing band is where I'll be!  (Though I'll be moving a lot more slowly in the evening than during the day, no doubt!).

Sorry JG - was meaning freestyle stuff really rather than classes.

I'd try and move quickly in the evening - that band seem to have one speed and it ain't slow!  :D

Hope you have a good day though

I will be at the fester but as it?s a tad on the breezy side, I don?t think there is going to be a lot of flying

Twyford!  Sorry John, didn't realise that the 40's thing was on and had booked tickets for Twyford ages ago!  We really enjoyed the last two years down at the Industrial Museum - if anyone is thinking of going, you won't be disappointed!  The band played various styles, quite a lot of fast, but well balanced I thought......... and some the Glenn Miller classics - absolutely fabulous!  8)

Hi Jivedave,

The info on the 1940s event can be found here.  You can see the leaflet scans too. :D

Classes are advertised to run from about 12 to about 5 (beginner and intermediate level) but we've always had to squeeze in extra either side, plus there's a class in the main evening do too, but please remember only the daytime is free - the evening is £15.

Yes, about a dozen of us turned up to be told that Ed and his dance partner had phoned the venue only an hour before to say they couldn't make it as they'd both come down with food poisoning.  :( A few of us hung around to use the venue but I'd recommend a call in advance of setting off on Sunday to check it's going ahead (07941199335).

..........they couldn't make it as they'd both come down with food poisoning. ...

see .... entirely AW's fault  >:D what a terrifying thought - getting on the dance floor with delhi belly. I leave people with the 'vision' that the soldiers known as 'Wingate's Chindits' cut holes in their uniforms so that they could keep marching (i won't say moving) whilst suffering from dissentry in Burma.

...which sort of links with the opportunity to thank John for the 1940's info. I doubt i'll be going to the evening do - which i'm sure will be very good - but hope to get to the later lessons.

Always pleased to be of service!  ;)

(Though the thought of being linked to a bout of dyssentry is somewhat disturbing  >:D)

If you're lucky, after the classes stop we'll be sticking the wimminfolk up on the tank turrets again for a photoshoot.  Oddly enough, that's always popular with the male photographers.

Hopefully Becky will be there in her fab diner outfit again, so that I can take some photos!

The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

John, as you are a 5 STAR General - sorry member - i was simply making a point, pertinent to the theme of the weekend : that being, that war can be a dirty business (in many senses) and is not just about impressing the ladies with one's weapon(s) >:D

ps : one slightly serious point. I recall last year and the Sherman tank being driven along the quay. I think that people were only, i guess, 4 or 5 feet to the side of path of the vehicle, kept clear by some barriers which would give no protection if it had slewed to one side - perhaps that could happen if the drive to one set of tracks were lost, say. It just sort of struck me  (forgive the pun) that we're hardly allowed to wire a plug and yet some obvious dangers get passed by. I think it's great that people maintain and display the hardware - but they ain't toys.

Had a good time at Taunton last night - Gary's set was once again a good mix, not all of it to my taste but lots of it was so that's fair enough.

They're running an event on 26 Aug in Bridgewater - nothing on in Bristol as far as I can see (we're at a wedding so can't make that one) then there's another one in Bridgewater on 1 sept.
