Gareth Rees in ski accident
« on: January 26, 2005, 12:27 PM »
Local jive legend Gareth Rees has been seriously injured in a skiing accident during the annual Ski and Rock trip to La Plagne, France.  :o Gareth texted me today to let me know that he fell of a cliff while skiing at the start of the week.  He hit a tree and broke 6 ribs but is lucky to be alive as the tree prevented him from falling further!  :o He was taken off the mountain by paramedics with a sled ambulance and has been hospitalised since.  He is is hoping to be discharged on Friday.

I'm sure Gareth would appreciate any Get Well messages that are texted to him.  His number is +447861396435.

Thanks for the update.  I guess he won't be dancing or teaching for a bit!

It sounds like he had a lucky escape there.

Get well soon!

John.

Well, I took a look on the internet, and cross-referenced ski topics and trees, and I found this page:

http://www.ahajokes.com/gui14.html

One of the definitions was as follows:

Quote
Traverse: To ski across a slope at an angle; one of two quick and simple methods of reducing speed.

Tree: The other method.

Sorry Gareth, had to be done! :)

Hope you get better soon.

Dave Holbrook announced it on Friday - Gareth had six fractured ribs as you know, but two of them were broken twice!  OUUUUCCCCCHHHH!  Sounds as though he won't be dancing for quite some time - I would imagine his internal organs must have taken quite a bruising as well.  :(  :(  :(

He is being brought back by air ambulance.

Oh yes, he is being attended by 5 nurses and to quote Dave Holbrook - 'he may be feeling a little stiff when he comes back'.  ;D

what a shame (not about the nurses)!
hope he will be able to make the party, even for a non-dancing type of celebration!

Thanks Guys,
I appreciated all your suppport, especially those who sent text messages.

Thanks to Jill and all my skiing mates. Without their support the whole of the incident would have been an even bigger nightmare. Its at times like this you know who your true friends are!!!!
 :)
I was brought back this afternoon with medical backup and I am glad to be back home.

I hope to see you all very soon.

Does anyone else have visions of Jill sitting by his bedside, peeling grapes & mopping his fevered, bandana'd brow?

No? Just me then!  ;)
