Sorry to 'hitch a ride' on J's post but i'm interested in buying a pair of dance shoes (UK 11 - if anyone has spares, a pound saved is pound earned :o) and wondered where locally might be a good place to try as i'm reluctant to buy shoes mail-order.

I think i would like ones that don't have big heals (noticed the Riverdance crew M/F in the BEP pic all had large heals) and don't look like i should be...(i'll skip my facetious comments).

I'd like to have some ankle support, maybe and to be slightly fettishist, blue suede would be fun - as i have happy memories of recalling the lyrics of the Kevin Ayres song whilst talking to Cap.t Criptic in the Pig and Whistle in Scunny. 'I walked into this bar and the man refused, he said we don't serve strangers in blue suede shoes.....' - taped it for me with some offerings by 'Colosseum' - who?

thanks Phil, i'll bike into town this week hopefully at least to try on some shoes. There's another shop in yeller pages in Clifton (says ballroom shoes) but it will give me a chance to get some advice. There are some others listed but i have suspicion that they will be aimed at petit  girls rather than... ???

All 3 Bristol dance shops are aimed primary at the ladies

They do buy a lot more shoes than us

A guy with a lot of dance shoes probably only has 5 pairs

His female equivalent will have 50 ::)

But you will find the sales ladies and the customers at Dancwell incredibly helpful :smitten:

They may not have what you want in stock, but will happily get them for you to try  O0

Thanks again Phil but i gave a shop in Fishponds a call today as it was approx. en route for me (pre-empting an extra journey)

Briefly bought a pair of Gandolfi (doesn't sound like like it but actually 'home-made') and though they were a bit flashy - thought they'll suit Dave's ( five live are running a thing where listeners report pretentious people who use the 3rd person) style  (usiing the term in the loosest sense) of dancing, perfectly. >:D

Anyhow had to move up 1/2 size but being leather should give a little and upon twisting a little on the carpet, could tell the shop owner was impressed :D

FINALLY - Kathy (the proprietor) is selling off her -  LIMITED (sizes) - stock of adult shoes (ladies' jive and ballroom) and men's (some sneakers? and ballroom?) at 50% discount (mine cost me £35)

her no is 0117 9655660 and the shop (Kathy's Dancewear) is in Alexandra Park, a small road left just before GALA bingo and after the Lodge Causeway junction on the main drag thru Fishponds. (she said it was ok to mention her business)

footnote ;D - the shop's prices seem pretty good when i checked out the Gandolfi web site.
