Elmgrove Routine: Wednesday 20th September 2006
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:57 AM »
Hi Peeps,

The routine from last night was:

Beginners I - Figure 8
 - Short butterfly
 - Secret move
Beginners II - Figure 8
 - Short butterfly
 - Secret move
 - (First move) *
Intermediates - Passing backhander (low pass)
 - Crossover spin
 - Passing backhander (overhead spin pass)
 - Lasso sway
 - Tornado tango lunge exit

* During beginners part 1, the first three beginner moves were taught.  During beginners part 2, the first three moves were revised and an additional fourth move added in.

The intermediate routine was designed around the passing backhander move.  The class focussed on the two different ways to do the same move.  Some of the moves from last week were revised.

Considerations for the night:
- Safety was discussed for lunges - entry speed, floor types, partner type.
- An alternative move was provided for those who did not wish to do a lunge.
- Safety was discussed for timing of lunges - the differences between a fast entry and a paused entry were demonstrated, as were the different support grips that could be used (open, shoulder, neck!).
- Examples of different styles of doing the same moves were also shown (from safe to flashy), to assist dancers with experimentation with the move after the class.  The safest style demonstrated for each move was adopted for the duration of the class.
- Demonstrations were shown of how to catch a partner prior to a lunge using their own body spin motion to wrap them into a safe encompassing arm hold.
- Use of body and arm holds were demonstrated, to highlight the types of control that can be used to enhance the appearance and safety of a lunge.

Regards

John.
