Sunday Tea Dance 29 October 2006 in Yatton
« on: September 29, 2006, 04:23 PM »
Well it's been a long time but we're back!

Same format as before cool tunes chosen according to who turns up. Whatever dance you want to do we'll try to cater for (Conga and okey cokey excluded)

2 til 5

Yatton Village Hall
Yatton
BS49 4HL

Lovely little hall with a really nice floor

Stupidly cheap at £3 each including tea & biccies (I'll even bring the papers along to make it a reallly Lazy Sunday Afternoon)

i tink i might skip the WCS class and go for this one as it wouldn't matter at what stage during the afternoon one arrived. (WCS - it does seem from the youtube videos fairly simiilar to jive but with some (optional) 'footwork'? or am i being totally naive?)  Being a bit idle, without going back to the WCS post i wondered how the class pans out - is it beginners, freestyle, intermeds.?

for AW - believe he likes Ella Fitzgerald - BBC radio bristol played a 'soul version of rock/blues tracks' and her version of Cream - 'sunshine of your love' was most popular. gottta go the foods burniong

You're right Ella's music to me is  her version of Sunshine of your love isn't a song that's likely to make my playlist though

WRT WCS class - it's not structured like leroc - it just starts with "easy" stuff and gets harder through the afternoon. There's a short time for dancing at the end.

WCS footwork is optional - but only if you're really good at it, beginners like me have to go with the prescribed footwork I'm afraid

...can't agree AW - playing the Vinyl Cream and just the opening notes have an imperative to 'do something' - speaking of which i'd like to do for the w**kers who set the speed limits going down the 370 what uncle joe (i'm sure he could save the CAP a few Euros) did for the farmers in the USSR - 30,50,40,30,40,30,70,30,70.... Just popped in to the village hall and seems v. pleasant but not many folk today - just going to have to forget 'tail end charlie' and stick to the limits when driving there.

ps : probably 'sunshine of your love' would be tricky for dance and i'm sure the workers are v. nice and it's nothing to do with slowing one down, abruptly to get a picture of the car. Just that i remember biking many a lonely mile up and down that road 23 years ago and little traffic - progress >:(

we'll just have to disagree on that one then - it seems strange for me to be taking a position against Ella, but that arrangement just doesn't do it for me. The original is one of my fave tunes so that may have something to do with it. In terms of MJ the remix by the Hoxtons is pretty dancable - just that bit quicker than Cream.

PS if you like Ella I recommend  Sing Me A Swing Song, I'm Beginning to see the light, Let yourself go & It's too darn hot

couple of questions for AW : Are there likely to be any 'spare'  >:D - ladies that is? and is the floor very slippery? Tea : not too much milk and no sugar - i'm sweet enough  :D oh - get Mrs W. to iron the papers; i'm sure sure that she would enjoy that  ???

ps : just being a little flippant : freezer packed-up at work and i got 2 loaves of bread (survival mode in space parlance or was it all those sums about isentropic efficiency?) - (don't tell the revenue or they might dig deeper and discover my source of coffee grindings for the allotment - 'benefits in kind' , thin end of the wedge, got to make an example, got to find money for Dawn's expenses, etc.) and it's cold and wet.

Looks like Simon will be there - so we'll have no chance - any ladies will be forming an orderly queue

The floor is just about slippery enough for my liking - it's not as slippery as the BAWA for instance

As for the comment about Julia - She's got Tennis Elbow which reduces her willingness to use the iron but I'm sure she's quite capable of standing up for herself  :knuppel2:

.....

...if Simon is that good i might see what i've got in the wardrobe so that i can have the pleasure and having got rid of t' cloggs, thou knows, found i got quite dizzy at kingswood on wed. Spinning round on a slippery part of the floor - now i know how we ladies feel. It's like a glass of sherry : goes straight to one's head.

I expect i can find a window >:D -joking, i'll be pleased if you're there! i wonder if AW will play the 'done to death' T & G track as i seem to recall that J. likes the slow, mellow sound. Haven't been doing so many classes lately and so i'm hoping to get in plenty of footwork. (not too much pop tonight and light scull tomorrow morning!)

Thanks to A & J for enjoyable afternoon. Could have done with a few more punters - but the floor seemed fairly slippery without giving any unpleasant surprises and plenty of room. Thanks to Justine (she got her track - i wonder if i asked for a little AC/DC  ::) ) for some 'pointers' and several dances.  Anyhow, looking forward to some future Sunday afternoon entertainment  :)
