New Events Calendar page
« on: December 23, 2004, 08:22 AM »
Hi Everyone,

The new events calendar is nearly ready to roll now.

If anyone wants a play and provide feedback... it's at

http://www.leroc-in-bristol.co.uk/Events_Calendar.asp

It now provides the following extra stuff:

1. Sortable by organizer, date, and event type.

2. Clashes are marked automatically as "BUSY" even if only one of the clashing events shows on your current view.

3. The Calendar view has an icon link to the event details (on the event details page) with some helpful text to explain it when the mouse hovers over it.

4. Each event also has a "class summary" link with takes you to the class summary page for the organiser of the event (again, with helpful mouse text).

5. Each event also has an "organiser link" which takes you to any external websites run by the organisers (plus helpful mouse text!).

6. Each event is constructed as [Event Type]: [Details] at [Venue] (Valid Until [date]).

7. The Valid Until value next to some events shows that this event is still valid even though the date has passed, e.g. if term finishes on the 1st of december then you still want to know it's finished all the way up to the start of the next term, so even though it's now the 15th december, you still need to know that the classes are out.

8. Events are automatically filtered by day, so by default any events in the past aren't shown, but you can go back and look at them if you wish by expanding the search dates to include the past events.  This means that as soon as an event passes, it pops off the visible list.  Immediately up-to-date with no effort from me (yay!).

9. Combination searches allow you to search on multiple things, e.g. "show me all dances by Elmgrove LeRoc between 01/02/2005 and 05/04/2005.

10. A "match counter" is shown at the bottom of the screen, so that you can see how many events match your search criteria.

If you can think of any other things you'd like on there let me know!

John.

P.S. All feedback welcome, if you don't feed me ideas then I can't add them in! :)

Hi John,

Can you add the Viva term starts too, please?  ;D It's 4th Jan for Portishead, and 6th for Stoke Gifford.

Yup, that's done.  If you can check it that would be great.  Jury's still out on whether to include the Portishead class in this lot, as it's a fair step out from Bristol.  Will hold fire on doing too much for that at the mo, though will definitely do a class page for the Stoke Gifford class when you provide some details / logos etc.

Hi Lou,

If you look at any of the existing class pages you'll get an idea - a logo, some times, some prices, maybe maps & written instructions on how to get to your venues... a bit about yourselves...

The usual!

Right,

Added a "map" facility to the new calendar page now.  Wherever there is a venue page defined, the "at [venue]" bit links to the page, and there is also a "map" link too.

Now all I have to do is finish off the other venue pages!

John.

[27/12/2004] Added the Elmgrove Centre venue.
[28/12/2004] Added The Folk House, BAWA, Kingswood Community Centre and St. Bonaventure's.
[29/12/2004] Added The Winter Gardens, PBA, Yate Leisure Centre, Chipping Sodbury Town Hall, Scotch Horn Leisure Centre and The Newman Hall.

John,

Any chance of changing the colour for week-end events?  I tend to look for what's on at week-ends and that would make those events stand out a bit more............ ::)

Thank

Elaine

It's a good suggestion - I'll have a go later, once Rebecca's gone to bed!
