Forum problems - long messages
« on: February 02, 2005, 12:31 PM »
Webmaster,
I have a minor problem, but perhaps you can make a suggestion!

I`m one of the many slow typists around. If the context of a reply is long and it takes me forever to type and make minor spelling, punctuation adjustments!!!

when it comes to preview or post the reply the forum frequently tells me i have to log back in and I lose all my response.

Sometimes I remember to highlight and left click and copy the text........but i frequently end up forgetting and end up starting all over again. This can be frustrating and time wasting????

Can you make a suggestion please. Is it possible to save a draft copy?

Thanks

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Not sure why you're being logged out - it shouldn't do that.

One option if you're a slow typist is to write your message in Word or somesuch, which would also allow you the luxury of spell-checking first.  You can draft to your heart's content, and then paste your reply in.

Out of curiosity, what broswer / ISP / etc are you using?

John.

Hi John,
I`m on BT BROADBAND and use Internet Explorer. I use to get the same problem on previous versions of this Forum.

Thanks

Gareth

The only thing I can think of is if you're taking more than about 20 minutes to write a message.  In that case the session would time out on you.

I need to do some more digging on this...

Another option is a voice recognition programme

They take time to train and get used to but my neighbour Stuart who is Quadriplegic uses one a lot

I have to confess I don?t use one my self

If you get a time-out message, click the back button on your browser and you should return to your original message, with the text intact.  Copy it, log in again, and then paste your message in.

Another option - when you log in, there is a checkbox to say "log in forever" which leaves you logged in, so next time you return to the forum you're already sorted without having to type anything in.

That may help with your timeouts.
