I've decided that just cursing spammers isn't that productive, so I'm going to do something a bit more useful.  Spammers harvest places for email addresses... so I'm going to compile a nice big list on this page of all the spammers that try to get into the forum.  Then the web bots come, harvest the free email addresses, and hopefully they will then spend a lot of time sending emails to themselves.

True, but these are the ones that provide an email address, and complete the registration process - so they're valid, and lead to the spammer.

NDR - didn't come straight to mind but now obvious.

  perhaps they'll interest somebody but i find all this sort of stuff soul destroying. Like now chaining my car to a steel bar i've bashed in the ground (no one tried to nick the maestro). An ex colleague with a law degree had a solution  'turn them all into pet food' (i'm sure that wouldn't be good for the profession) and i'm not that fond of pets either.

Interesting - useful articles!

I must admit I get many hundreds of spams a day now.

I did try autofiltering them, but that caused problems, so now I use a tool called Mailwasher which is very good.

There are better mail filtering tools such as Bayesian(?) which is actually free, but I haven't tried installing / training it yet.
