Creating a webpage
« on: February 02, 2005, 01:51 PM »
More help required!  ;D

I'm getting married later this year and think it would be really useful if I could set up a webpage to post details for guests.  Can anyone explain (in small words!) how to go about setting up such a webpage and which internet provider to use.  Am hoping for a very simple site where I can post a map of the venue location and local accommodation, wedding list, etc.

Many thanks.

Hi Simon,

Have a peek at this site:

http://www.theknot.com/pl_webpage.html

It's American, but I think it'll do everything you want - and simply!  ;D

p.s. wedding websites can get very addictive!  ;)

I can recommend talking to Jon White (alias Jive Magic), as he does very nice deals on web hosting and can offer all sorts of advice and help on what you're after.

John.
The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

Yay for Jon!  ;D (He hosts my stuff now, too!  ;D)

I've found another possibility for Simon:

Like The Knot, they offer a free and easy to create wedding website, but better than that, they're UK based!  ;D

Hi Simon,

The quickest, easiest & cheapest option for setting up a site is to go for a blogging option.

Blogger (http://www.blogger.com/start) is free & easy to use.

Also, check out Zoto (zoto.com) - They offer a free service where your photos are automatically uploaded to a site for indexing & sorting etc.

Ahhh... but chaps... do your suggested solutions also have llinks & pages devoted to dresses, shoes, finding the right florists, how to do table plans, what colour napkins to pick, what music to have, where to find a harpist, what readings to choose, wordings for invites, whether bobbonierres are in or out this year, and whether a bolero jacket or a wrap is more suitable with a strapless bodice in church?

No?

I didn't think so!  ;) Men!  ::)

I didn't think so!  ;) Men!  ::)

Surely the most important consideration, instead of all Lou's froufrou stuff, is the playlist for the reception dance?

For example - which track will Simon choose for the first dance with his new bride?

Will it be "How Lucky can one guy be"? "Love is in the air"? Or "Lets get this party started"?

Sounds like Lou's a fellow addict of www.hitched.co.uk - how much advice can one girl have on which veil to pick!  And as for the cat fights... >:D

*lol* at Brian oooops! I mean Jennie!  ;D

I got married 3 years ago & was totally addicted to Hitched, WGUK and Confetti!  ;D  At least you have the excuse that yours was far more recent!  :)

These guys have got to realise that Simon's not just asking about any website - it's their wedding website!!! :o ;D

(But I did like Dr Nick's music suggestions!  :))

....i sence gender war coming......  ;)

....hiya lou....

....... no no... Simon is a BLOKE.....
..... He is asking for EXACTLY what he wants...... not for a telepathic extrapolation of what he WANTS - from what he is SAYING......   ;D

Mars and Venus stuff I believe....    ::)

Ie.  The question is:
"....how to go about setting up such a webpage and which internet provider to use....."

Mind you - great ideas ladies!

...erm... a good extrapolation of what he NEEDS - from what he is SAYING......   ;D

Best wishes all!

and of course - we're just being really helpful by pointing out what the bride to be is going through so that Simon can be a really understanding husband to be!! ::)
