Bridgewater 17/02 dance
« on: February 15, 2007, 12:36 PM »
Just noticed that Gary is running a dance at the Bridgewater Social club on Saturday - always worth a visit, nice floor, music etc etc So since Bristol is devoid of any action this weekend some of you might fancy a wee jaunt

Yup, Bristol central might be devoid (as far as I'm aware) but there is a dance at Nailsea on Saturday.

There's also a dance slightly further afield in Cardiff on Friday.

John.

The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

...i hope to try Nailsea on Sat. - coincidentally, i heard that they play some '60s/'70s music. I suppose a few people must be heading there?

I won't be, but the dances are well-spread out, so hopefully the catchment area for each one will give each dance a good turnout.

Still, the grass is always greener... :)

i heard that they play some '60s/'70s music.

I think that the term understatement would be appropriate

In my time attending Nailsea dances, i must say that visits from the Bristol Mob were rare

Note to self - remember how to spell Bridgwater

Hope that doesn't mean lots of Abba and chunes i try not to think about but get played at least once a day on classic gold radio. Nailsea is a lot nearer than other venues Bristol lerocers visit - so is the reluctance down to the music?

We have been enticed by another blues evening in Evesham.  Marc Foster is DJing and it's only about 30 mins from us.

Cardiff is a very good night and I hear that they are getting some very decent new dancers along!

Never been to a freestyle at Nailsea, so can't comment!

hmmmm, im torn between Utopia (Evesham) just for the music, and its nice to dance to blues once in a while. But most of the crwod are heading to Whitchurch.

but as Mark Forster is DJing..... hmmmm, its a toughie

still undecided, this is where i need my little troop of becki clones again.

For those of you who like 60s compilations, Nailsea is the place to go

If you want something more adventurous, head further south for one of the West?s Top DJs at Bridgewater

Both venues are friendly, have excellent floors, plenty of free parking and sensibly priced bars

If you are going to Utopia at Evesham http://www.cerocgroove.co.uk/utopia.tpl

It might be worth booking in advance

Hiyas Bex,

It's not Whitchurch this time it's: The Electricity Club, Pontcanna, Cardiff.

May see you tonight, or not.........

if Nailsea is going to be basic '60s pop (amen corner, union gap, etc.) then it might not be very interesting but music evolved a lot during the '60s and '70s and if is not very interesting, why are they  covering everything in sight? Here's a Who track (just into the '70s) and its cover (which to be fair they have done differently unlike the pet clark 'down town' clone - one of the spice?):

- heard it in my local.

I can't see why we can't have plenty of variety at any non-specialized dance. Speaking of uninteresting, DJ derek has been avoiding soporific swing music of late   >:D

how about this one (eloise) :

or if that's a bit slow, from the sublime to the ridiculous :
