For Bloch's which I've looked at you can get the same named style of shoe for both genders.

There may well be gender specific styles though.  I don't suppose they sell many large sizes in pink ...

I'm not sure if they are absolutely identical though.

Dance trainers are a good starter and also useful for dance workouts, hip hop classes, etc.  I've had a couple of pairs of Bloch trainers over the years.  But I'm informed that split soled shoes aren't all that great for your feet as they will literally stretch and strain them.  :(  I've also felt generally quite restricted when spinning in them.

For the last couple of months I've worn suede-soled Cuban heeled dance shoes (bought from Dancewell in Clifton).  ;D 8)  Comfortable (except when you're trodden on! >:(), light and slick.  Superb.  They just won't let me plod around the dancefloor.

I'll be wearing them when David and Lily come to town to teach West Coast Swing.  8)

Well I believe that dance trainers are the reason so many dancers bounce often imitating  budgies ignoring the music.  Any serious dancer should seriously  consider Chrome leather soles Fred Astair and Gene Kelly of the past used them  and Steve Mitchell and Ryan Francois do today.  Once you have mastered leather and by the way no floor is too slippery you will find you can slide and move like never before, lets dance smooth  cool and sexy.   8) 8) 8) 8)
When you take dance lessons you learn steps and moves,  then one day you realise you can dance it is so different.

So would sticking Chrome leather soles on dance trainers be reasonable ( I've no idea where to get Chrome leather soles though ).

Just use any old suede leather cut it to shape and stick it with bostick Job done. I repair my old Gandalfi shoes in the same way . 8) 8) 8) 8)
