Site updates (12/08/2007)
« on: August 12, 2007, 04:38 PM »
Today's updates:

- I finally fixed the date formats and time offsets on the front page!  Yay!

- The Leroc 2000 events are now listed as LeRoc UK on the Events Calendar.
- The LeRoc 2000 events are now updated to use the new logo.
- The LeRoc 2000 class page has now been updated to use the new logo / name (even though Sherif does need to supply a new write-up for the site, otherwise I may just trim it to what is correct).
- The menus have been updated to use the new LeRoc UK name.
- The Class Summary page has been updated.
- The LeRoc 2000 board has now been renamed LeRoc UK.

I'm sure there's stuff I've missed off, but people will point it out to me when they find it... :)
The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

John,
Has Sherif not told you -
He has decided to keep the name Leroc 2000 after all

I really hope you're joking...   :'(

Oh well, at least the dates and times are correct now.

Billy Cullen at Leroc Scotland,  I bought the domain name; leroc.uk.com in April 07

will cause a problem??

I know that Colin Shaul has something similar.

http://www.lerocuk.com and http://www.leroc.uk.com are different URLs so the sites do work completely independently of each other.

The larger issue would be with perceived identity I guess.

Could these two (very similar) groups claim exclusive rights to it?

I will keep the site changes as they are, until the people involved reach a concensus of opinion and provide instruction on naming / branding.

(Legal input anyone?)

John.

It's only a (.) of a difference, although chalkie (a former teacher for me) in Edinburgh has "lerocscotland", and I have "leroc-scotland" we don't seem to conflict at all.

I know that when I named my site, I wanted to call it "Bristol LeRoc" but there used to be a group with that name in the area and I didn't want to prevent them from having use if it in the future.

As such I ensured that the name was sufficiently different so that there would be no mistaking it, and sufficiently accurate for the purpose of the site.

i.e. I try to concentrate on the Bristol area only, as a) I don't want to have to maintain any more than I do, and b) my aim was to be a local resource.

My purpose was to complement the existing groups.

The only thing that I do name-clash with is John Eastman - the number of people who think that this is his site and not mine is funny, seeing as we're both called John and all... :)

Horses for courses though.

I've started a new topic, discussing the importance of branding issues.

Does it actually matter? Billy's class is called LeRoc Glasgow isn't it? The site Philsmove found is for an organisation called The Jive In Dance Co. Sherif's changed his organisation's name to LeRoc UK. No one else (as far as I can see) has an organisation called LeRoc UK. Just because they have similar URLs shouldn't be a problem. I suppose the only problem would be if someone typed it in wrong - they'd go to a different website to the one they were expecting. (There's probably some porn equivalents, too, I expect  ;) Maybe someone could research that aspect too....  ::) ).

Well the question "Does it really matter" can be discussed in the other topic I've started on the matter.

Sherif is well within his rights to rebrand.

Yes, it appears his name is close to the name of another group, but if the other group/s doesn't have an issue with it then OK.

The limit of my concern would be if there was an issue - and if the parties didn't reach a sensible agreement, and I start taking flak from both sides using me as a tug-of-war on brand usage.

I sincerely hope that all involved are happy with it and I can get on with my job of just advertising some good dances and classes. :)

Which group is that, John?

Hey ho.

You said "his name is close to the name of another group" - but I'm asking which one.

Current organisations mentioned are:

LeRoc Scotland
Glasgow LeRoc
The Jive In Dance Co
CPN Dance Company Edinburgh (Chalkie's class)

Have you read the thread, John?  :2funny: You've missed the point a bit here, mate, in your eagerness to condemn change::)
