The similarities were mentioned based on the URLs, with lots of hits on the search phrase for leroc uk.  The similarities were pointed out by others.  Personally I tend to associate the web URL with the branding - as people tend to use one for the other usually.

I did indicate that I supported his right to rebrand, and that I hoped that it worked.

If I was condemning the change of name I wouldn't be spending my time updating the site to ensure Sherif's renaming of his class was visible.

What I did do was to abstract the issue to discuss branding in general and the importance of branding with the dance industry, to move the focus away from finger pointing, and to stimulate conversation in general.

That's just the way it is.

and I start taking flak from both sides using me as a tug-of-war on brand usage.

John I can?t see any reason for anyone giving you flack  bh

You have a justified reputation for never taking sides

As mention many times Leroc like Tango is not a brand name and any one can use it

If anyone else is thinking of changing names why not pick a unique one e.g. lyjive  register with the patent office as trade mark and grab the ulrs first

Sorry if you think it's flack, Phil. It's not meant to be.  :) I'm just pointing out that there's no issue with the name change.  There are no similarly named organisations, despite John's mistaken belief. I'm just trying to explain it to him. And if he follows your link, he'll see that Sherif's class is right there amongst the top links. I'm sure that John follows the links, so probably just missed it.  :)

The URL isn't the brand. For example, look at B&Q. Their URL is www.diy.com. It's what they sell! DIY stuff! Same as all the organisations named. They can have a URL with Leroc & UK in it - they are LeRoc clubs in the UK - it's logical.
