Do you want more dances or less?
« on: December 28, 2004, 09:57 AM »
OK, probably a silly question but...

Do you want more LeRoc in Bristol this year, or less?
Do you want more outside events?
Feed me some ideas and we'll stick it in a poll!

The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

Free events indeed!  You missed a few last year:

- Elmgrove LeRoc were out and about, and did a free demo and class at the Bristol Harbour Festival (see the photos here), and

- We also did a full-day event at the Engine Shed, for the 1940s weekend.  We taught about 8 free classes (beginner and intermediate), and had a swing dance in the evening (though the swing dance cost £10 a head as we did have a full band in there). (Photos of that here).

- We also usually do some free work teaching in schools when time permits too (our most notable example was teaching the dance students at Strode College to jive for their production of Return To The Forbidden Planet), though they aren't available to the general public for obvious reasons!

OK, so free events aren't "major" events, but they can be fun if you're into a bit of raising awareness of LeRoc.  Of if you're into seeing the ladies of Elmgrove LeRoc sitting on a tank turret wearing a uniform... mmmmm.....  >:D

Believe it or not, but Jongleurs on Baldwin Street has had an R&B band in their bar playing once a week (and a dance floor) w/ no door charge -- dunno how long it will last though.

The music is good, but it does require being comfortable dancing in front of a large crowd of people who have come in just for a pint!

Hiya Guys,

Is Jongleurs on next Tuesday 4th Jan?
We've got to give it a whirl sometime!

... Um got to ask - is the dance floor a really smokey atmosphere, or is it ok?
Bit wheezy at the mo!  :-\

Cheers

I've heard it starts again on the 11th, so nothing this tuesday... for smokiness it's not the worst, but not the best either.  could be an issue if you are sensitive to it  :(  No such thing as a free lunch, err dance, I suppose.

Thanks for that Brian,

PS:
It was nice to meet you in person at Nick's Party - another face to a name!   ;)

PPS:
Nice "Rebecca's move" you did on the dance floor!   ;)
Glad to see that Esoteric move - going mainstream!   ;D
(John, get Suzanne to teach it to you   8) )

Cheers

Think you should  be aware as well Marty that the dance floor is pretty small-- only enough space for maybe 4 or 5 le-rocing couples Iwould say . But I really enjoyed it when I went there & if people are definitely going on 11th I will probably go down too.Regarding le roc dances, as long as theres at least one dance every weekend and as few clashes as possible , then I'm happy--easily pleased or what ! ;D

If I lived nearer to Bristol I would def check this one @ Jongleurs out.
BTW if anyone ever wants to try one of the Glos. dances out if it's a quiet weekend on the Leroc Scene let me know.  There are regular Fridays and Saturdays in the Stroud/Cirencester/Cheltenham area

Claire :D :D

Hiya Claire,

....I love the way you scream my name!    ;D   ;)

You was at Nick's party as well???
Crumbs there seems to be quite a few "dual personalities" out there!   ;)

The Stroud/Cirencester/Cheltenham dances sound good - Any chance you can let us know when they are on?  Do they have web sites etc?

Cheers
