A trip to Ceroc Worcester class - April 7th
« on: April 08, 2005, 09:17 AM »
Being in the area, I decided to visit the CerocTM class in Worcester last night. And, after finally finding the venue (which was trickier than I thought!  ::) ) I had much fun. It was a function room in a pub.

The lass on the door wasn't particularly welcoming (considering I was a stranger), so I have to admit I did wonder whether I'd done the right thing in going... but once I joined in the Beginners class, everyone was very warm & friendly. There were 4 moves - pretty much the same as you'd expect to find in a LeRoc Beginners class. An Arm-Jive with a Swizzle exit, a Basket, a Shoulder Silde & a Catapult. The only odd thing to my Bristol LeRoc trained eye, was that there was a Return before the Catapult, whereas, down here, we'd leave it out.

There was a bit of freestyle after the beginners class. Unfortunately, the dancefloor is a bit small to hold the numbers of people who were there, and I got trod on.  :( The floor was also on the slow-to-medium side, so I nipped off to change from my trainers into the Mock Croc Spanking ShoesTM, which suited it far better. I'd also arranged to meet up with a chap from the Scottish forum, and fortunately I was able to find him by the description of his footwear. ;) Anyway - I had some lovely dances with several nice chaps & then it was time for Intermediates.

There were 3 moves in the routine. There was a variation of the Armjive/Basket bit in the beginner's class, which added a bit of travelling to both parts, and a pretty neat Pretzel variation, with a block & freespin. The one thing I noticed about Debi's teaching was that she spent a lot of time talking & there was less time dancing the moves than perhaps we'd do here. But she was very clear, enthusiastic, and certainly knew her stuff.

The atmosphere was very friendly, indeed. (OK, with one exception, where 2 chaps were rowing at the bar, but that was quite amusing, actually!). I had a natter with Debi later & when she found out I was from Bristol she wanted to make sure I knew that CerocTM were starting a venue in May!! Bless. The music was pretty safe - Shania, Kylie, S Club, etc., but I was surprised to find myself dancing to Deep Purple.  ::) I asked the DJ later (a lovely old chap called Pops & a real character), to find out it had been a request.

Anyway  -'twas a lovely night, with very friendly locals, and if you find yourselves in the area, you could do a lot worse than visit CerocTM Worcester.  ;)

Funny you should say that - last night at Nailsea, Julia & I got chatting to a couple we hadn't seen before & it turned out that they were Ceroc trained as they came from Brum. They were amazed at the depth of teaching in the intermediates class which lasted 45 mins - they were used to 30 min sessions, with extended freestyle time as a result.

BTW they were a really nice couple (Karen & Tony) & good dancers so I've encouraged them to get to the local dances over the coming weeks.

We had a couple of CeRoc dancers turn up at Elmgrove this week (they certainly left in a daze after the class I put them through (snigger)).

They did make an unusual foray into Bristol, so I suggested to them that they should give all classes a go to see which suited them best, relating to their existing teaching and skill levels.

They went away quite surprised by the Bristol scene, which was good.  They're planning on coming back too - hopefully the cross-over between CeRoc and LeRoc can be improved to increase the number of "known" venues and classes around and about.

Meaniehead! That's not nice.  :P

Whenever I chat about Bristol classes, CerocTM people are typically surprised that we have so many smaller independent classes running in different venues.

You would have enjoyed the class Lou - the gentle wakeup first move was taught to Michael Buble's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

It sped up after that and didn't stop...

If you want fast - try his Spiderman theme.  :o  It's a bit good.

Me, I'm too old & worn out for all that racing around. Give me mellow.....

Sorry for the late response - but I thought you may want to hear about my recent experience at a London Ceroc class on Great Portland Street last Tuesday.

For some strange reason I was fully expecting the class to be 'beyond' my current level and a real challenge (I turned up late to the intermediates section) and that there was going to be multple air steps moves and lady chucking going on....maybe I was just dazzled by the bright lights of Londinium (I don't get out very often!).  But the class was very easy and quite frankly I was dissapointed with the ability of the majority of men even though I was being very picky with the guys I chose to dance with in freestyle.  BRISTOL GUYS ARE BETTER!!   :-*As I will be going to the centre of London 'lots' in the future I would like to know if anyone can recommend more 'challenging' classes that I can get to easily from Euston.

By the way, you will be glad to know that a 'chucker' found me, and yes, I did a somersault without even knowing.....I avoided him after that!

But the class was very easy and quite frankly I was disappointed with the ability of the majority of [women].  BRISTOL [GIRLS] ARE BETTER!!

Ditto for Ceroc Salisbury.  Dropped in last week as I was staying the night there.  :(

Might simply be the average Bristol dancer is more experienced, and the better dancers have gone to more specialist classes as the area can support it.

The Jango class http://www.jango.co.uk on a Monday which gets lot of positive press is somewhat further down the Hammersmith and City line than Great Portland Street, but you don't have to change trains.
