Jenny & Danni show 29-09-08
« on: September 30, 2008, 03:51 PM »
For the indeterminates, Jenny and Danni were back (after about a year?) for a class aimed (i believe) at improving couple's footwork with some Cha Cha moves. I'll be typically laconic  :D(as i didn't note the moves) but remebered the 'roller coaster' towards the end of the sequence as i sometimestry that move in freestyle but couldn't put a name to it before.

The sequence was mainly about moving forward, back, to the side, turning together (all whilst in what people said was a ballroom type embrace) with some independent 1/2 turns and side slides?.

I got the impression that many (including myself) found the sequence quite difficult though i'm sure adding some snazzy footwork will make jiving more interesting and entertaining.

John should be back next week and so Jacquie won't have to mix-it with plebs.  :D :D :D (joining in O0). Having a pint (with a free end of barrel 1/2) and a 4:30 alarm left me feeling pretty zapped but i enjoyed the class which finished a little later than usual. I'm trying to get some more civilised hours and something less physical, workwise and my routine of bath, wrap-up, cycle to class means i'm 'cooking' before i try dancing :idiot2:

It was indeed an interesting class, and with the men moving round, I remained right at the back so saw little of the fancy Cha cha cha footwork going on on the stage.  I managed to blunder through the move with a few of the guys who had done ballroom dancing, but most of the remainder didn't get the hang of it at all, being a bit of footwork that I would think would need considerable practice to get right, more than ten minutes or so. I think Jenni & Danni must have assumed previous knowledge of the move.

I did a bit of ballroom when I was about 8 years old (I kept going just long enough to get parents to buy me the silver dancing shoes  ;)), and can remember practising Cha cha in a straight line for ages. It didn't come back to me last night at all though!  :idiot2:

I am not too keen on fancy footwork - I think the lack of footwork is one of the attractions of leroc,  :D so I hope moves like the cha cha cha don't become too common place. :-\

Anyway, the 'rollercoaster' was a good move :), have done that one before somewhere.

Specialist stuff is always a challenge - although it's good to "push the envelope" in a class every so often, there will always be a balancing act between what can be taught in a normal evening and what can't.

I wasn't there myself, but it's nice to see some different stuff pop up though.
The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library
