Red & Black Ball 20 December 2008
« on: December 21, 2008, 11:53 PM »

I wasn't sure what to expect for this 'Ball' as being held in Filton Folk Centre which although has nice big floor for dancing isn't really quite a 'Ball' venue.  :-\

However, the hall had been decorated with garlands and red/black balloons and tables laid out nicely with table cloths, lanterns etc, so the event did feel like more than just an ordinary dance night.  Everyone looked great all dressed in red & black.  :)

There was plenty of food available and the buffet was very good.   :)  The food was served rather late, around 10pm I think, making me pleased we had eaten before going out - and also it was rather odd that the music continued at full blast while eating the buffet, and the lights left out.  ???  It would have been nice to have had 30 minutes or so to eat and have a chat with just background music playing.  ???

The West Coast Swing sample dance class was interesting but not really fun as a bit difficult for those (such as myself) who have never done West Coast Swing.   The demonstration of West Coast Swing was very good, though a bit odd that we all had to move to one side of the hall to watch it!

Dancing was stopped for the raffle to be drawn quite late - around 11.40pm, I think this would have been better done just after buffet had finished.

It was an enjoyable evening  :) but  I think it would have been better attended had the admission fee been slightly lower.   There was loads of food left over at the end!
