New years eve-- fire & ice ball--Newbury
« on: January 01, 2005, 05:01 PM »
Not overly impressed by the evening. The hall was very big & well decorated on a fire & ice theme but the floor was quite sticky and gritty making dancing a bit difficult. The main problem though was the music which was very variable with a lot of tracks either far too fast or too slow for le-roc-- and an especially bad patch of party tunes at midnight which went on far too long--( we all expect a few silly numbers at the stroke of midnight!).There was no cabaret, live music or D.W.A.S. which was a bit dissappointing considering the price of the ticket . About five of us went from Bristol and we made the best of it, dancing as much as possible--but would probably try a different venue next year-- the Edinburgh Hogmanay Ball sounds good-- might make a weekend of it next year!

Happy new Year Anita!

Sorry to hear about your nite in Newbury!   :'(

Was it a proper "Ceroc event", or whatever you call it?  I'm surprized that a big pricey event could be so badly put together!

Oh well, always next year.

That edinburgh ball sounds good for next year.  Shout closer the time... and lets see if more Bristol dancers can invade the place!   ;)

It wasnt exactly badly put together Marty,  just not very exciting and not great musically in my opinion. The hall was very well decorated though. Glad you had a good new year & look forward to a dance soon-- maybe at Kingswood on Fri 7th Jan?

Hiya Anita,

"....just not very exciting...."

ah..... thats because all us "exciting" folk were at Nick's party that night!   8)   ;)

Kingswood sounds good, save a dance for me  :-* .  There is also a dance a Ealing that night.  The DJ there really kicks butt!  He was also at Oxford last week, a really dance-able mix of fast and slow, old and new!   8)

All the best
Martin

Hi again Anita!

....ggggrrrr.... I knew I forgot to ask something!

Who was running the Newbury Event?  Who was the DJ?  Was it the place or was it the event organisers that was a downer?

The reason I ask is - that it would be nice to know what dances/events to avoid, especially if it involves a lot of travelling to get there etc.

(I'm building a "good dances around the UK " listing - for my 2005 "to do" list!)

 ;D

A controversial question?  Maybe....

Of interest to travelling Leroc'ers - I think this kind of thing is!

Cheers
Martin
