Out of interest, what do you mean by "march time"?
"Left, Right, Left, Right" etc i.e. many pop songs

Getting away from the regimented music, I couldn’t let Matt’s admission that he hadn’t heard of Tull go unnoticed, so I found a performance from a time when Abba and poppified Fleetwood Mac ruled whilst LP recorded, elitist, non-inclusive, pretentious,  musicianship was answered by the call of punk >:D :D ;). I think Ian’s personality changes when puts-on his stage clobber. Don't know about the sound quality and Ad-libbing but I think the showmanship sort of comes across. :idiot2:

 - the performance is a precis of a concept album (40+ mins) and so there are several 'gear changes'

Getting back to blues music:

Tull have made some diverse music from blues to even some Arabic sounding music, from rustic folk (eg heavy horses) to  rock (eg: steel monkey) just snipped this from wiki, by Ian responding to  a lot of  ‘noses-out-of-joint’ for winning best metal/rock or some such **** ahead of metallica

In response to an interview question about the controversy, Ian Anderson quipped, "Well, we do sometimes play our mandolins very loudly."

Here’s a rather lovely track I came across recently:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jethro_Tull_(band) - (seems to a problem getting the link)

 – the 5/4 timing is discussed as a way of keeping the ‘living in the past’ out of the charts.

ps : they must have done something danceable. ;)

ppps : (ie: particularly pedantic pain - sorry) but i came across some timing discussion for 'hotel california' and a fairly obscure Tull track 'we used to know' - people were discussing if the former had been 'inspired' by the latter, from youtube, uploaded by one 'losif53':

They wouldn't have a case.
There are blatant differences.
This song is in 3/4, where HC is in 2/4.
This song keeps the same chord progession throughout, where HC changes at the chorus.
And, the last two chords of the progression are not the same "formula" as HC.

- the Eagles supported Tull in the early 70s in the USA.

continuing the pedantry  ;) i guess that, just like Gordon, i don't know when to quit  :idiot2: so here , jumping in at the deeper end is some practical theory:

and some wiki wisdom:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_signature

 - hope i can find some energy for Filton tonight.

Does anyone know of any Blues classes in Bristol or Bath? There was, fleetingly, a class at the South Bank Centre which whetted my appetite  8)

next one form Richard B  is Sunday afternoon 22 august in Bath http://www.ceroclive.com/ £20 including Tea Dance

strongly suggest you take someone "special" with you,  Blues is close up and personal

I also suggest you go to the back of the class and  "fix" rather than rotate

Cool, thanks Phill.  O0 I know what to expect from Blues, so I might do it with my girlfriend if she's interested.

An excellent workshop, Richard covered a lot of ground bringing  in elements from tango and WCS and most important, how to go form one blues hold to another, have to admit, I struggled with the illusion thingy.
As BTB would say L& LOLL
one small grumble, after a late saturday night, I found the 1 pm start, too early

It was a great workshop and I'd go again to work on my improvisation.  I do love the Blues. :smitten: I got a video of the summary routine Richard did in case anyone is thinking of coming next time:

Does anyone have the bit of paper that explained what the moves were?

Graeme and Ann are teaching an hour of blues dancing as part of their Lindy Workshop on Sunday that they have tagged as suitable for all. Their approach isn't as "sexxed up" as that of many MJ teachers - it really is about lead & follow / connection http://www.hoppinmad.co.uk/specials.asp

then there's a different approach being taught in Cheltenham in November. Laminu is a slow dance based loosely on a great swing dance called Balboa. Dan Guest (fab dancer) is teaching a two hour beginners workshop. Their blurb says it's aimed at beginners but if you aren't used to dancing in a very closed hold then this might not be for you http://www.balboabunch.com/minisite/minisite_page.aspx?code=workshop

My personal tip is to learn & get comfortable with Social Foxtrot then experiment with putting in simple turns / returns + a few pauses within the structure

I know that the sound quality is really bad and the lyrics aren't clear, but does anyone recognise the track used by Richard in the above video? I'd like to add it to my collection. Ta.
