Singer Michael Jackson dies at 50
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:15 AM »
Hi All

I found this at the BBC:

Quote
Pop star Michael Jackson has died in Los Angeles, aged 50.

Paramedics were called to the singer's Beverly Hills home at about midday on Thursday after he stopped breathing.

He was pronounced dead two hours later at the UCLA medical centre. Jackson's brother, Jermaine, said he was believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

Jackson, who had a history of health problems, had been due to stage a series of comeback concerts in the UK, beginning on 13 July.

Speaking on behalf of the Jackson family, Jermaine said doctors had tried to resuscitate the star for more than an hour without success.

Jermaine Jackson on his brother's sudden death

He added: "The family request that the media please respect our privacy during this tough time."

Ha, can't see the media respecting that request in the slightest.

The full story can be read here.

I imagine anyone with concert tickets for the 2009 run of concerts in the UK will be thinking "Refund or keep as memorabilia?".

For those who are interested here is a related article: Refund issues over Jackson gigs.

I wonder how eBay sales of Michael Jackson memorabilia are doing...

Shame - some of the tracks of his that I danced / taught to are:

- Billy Jean
- Bad
- Black or White

Any other memorable dance tracks by him?

Well--I think it's a great loss--his music, dancing & choreography were  amazing--I loved all his stuff--but he appeared increasingly ill so maybe it happened the best way --he did say the planned concerts would be his final curtain call--so maybe he sensed something--I thought  he was great :(

So many memorable songs ...

I remember dancing to "The way you make me feel" as a beginner. I think this is a great song for beginners as it has a steady rhythm and also simple moments to interpret just a little so you can make believe you're dancing and not just counting.

My personal favourite of all his songs is "She's out of my life". That would be an unusual song to be played at a freestyle but I'd be interested in giving it a go.
