Elmgrove routine: Wednesday 11th November 2009
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:19 AM »
Hi All,

The routine from last night was:

Beginners IBeginners II
- Figure 8
- Short butterfly
- Secret move
- Figure 8
- Short butterfly
- Secret move
- (First move) *

IntermediatesNotes on the move
- SlingshotA smooth move requiring concentration on the man's part in order to "slingshot" the lady around his body without the slightest jerk.
- Triple return (manspin)Three travelling returns, but the middle spin requires the man to join in too with the spinning, doing a duet-style spin.  The third spin didn't require the man to spin, giving him time to steady and position ready for the next move.
- Open neckbreakAn easy intermediate move used to travel the lady back across the floor again.
- Windmill seducerA basic windmill, whipping the lady into a seducer after the third spin.
- Block seducerCome out of the previous move blocking the lady's push-out spin with the man's right hand.  Backspin, and take the lady into another seducer.  Standard exit.

* During beginners part 1, the first three beginner moves were taught.  During beginners part 2, the first three moves were revised and an additional fourth move added in.

For more info on how to do the beginner moves, see our free online detailed moves manual.

As drops were done, safety considerations were discussed relating to:
- partners,
- depth of lunge,
- speed of music,
- smoothness of floor,
- getting a good grip on the lady during a spin,
- addition of a steadying beat if needed before entering the dips, and
- support for the partner (one handed, two handed, control using outstretched arms, and support using extended legs).

The two seducers were placed with different entries, to allow practice of the move but highlight the differences in approach, and to give the ladies chance to concentrate on body styling during the move.

The triple travelling return was used to highlight good technique for travelling spins - including making the men spin during one of the travels to ensure that they understood the effects of a good/bad lead on the spin.

Regards

John.
