Groundhog Day
« on: December 20, 2009, 10:23 PM »
Well, why not today? :D

I remember a guy from Leeds  raving about this band back in the 70s whilst down the M1 in grubby old Sheffield.  I were young and getting into rock music after Motown/Soul but apart from odd snippets I'd heard little of the band. Previously, I didn't search out anything however I listened to some of the band's offerings, connected to the 'Mountain' track I  posted recently and I think it's the best 'meaty' rock music i've heard in a long time (sort of jazzy prog. blues) Michael Buble fans, etc had better depart now: >:D

Scenes/images from Kubrick's film blend beautifully with music as the group do some 'far out' jazzy things with their instruments (imho)  S2 and 3 are particularly good – i'd better not OD and tire of it.

Of the film, physicist Paul Dirac (from Bristol, saw it several times) quoted Kubrick who said that the meaning (or suchlike, if my memory serves me) of the film could not be expressed in words – Dirac empathised in that he thought quantum theory could only be adequately expressed mathematically (which leaves me out in the cold)  - if I recall his biography correctly.

I suppose the title still applies, replying to my own post  :D as no one seems interested but maybe this track which i came across whilst looking up their 'wheels on fire' hit from the 60s will appeal for the 'blews room' - never tried one, myself :D

It seems a bit out-of-tune in places and Julie overdoes it here and there but as a band never heard of these days, i thought it worth a listen. (compared to the 'too much of anything will make you sick',cosmetically enhanced cheryl type stuff, it seems refreshingly pure) The Jose Feliciano (careful how you say that >:D is also pretty good, imho:

ps: i think some of the hogs music well danceable - but i can't see that happening :D ;) :D

and i found (continuing the ||lel theme) a post about professor dirac:
