E-mail from Rock Bottoms
« on: January 06, 2010, 05:04 PM »
Did anyone else get an e-mail from Andy at Rock Bottoms about the Blackpool competion?  I'm not sure which mailing list I was on to receive it but it seemed unecessary, bitter and unprofessional.

If anything it makes me want to avoid Rock Bottoms.

Yes--I got an e-mail but have no idea what the truth of the situation is so wouldn't really be able to comment--but--if they have been stabbed in the back by someone, it's not surprising they're upset--too much of that seems to goes on in the jive world.

This all sounds very intriguing.

I didn't get the email myself, so couldn't comment at all.

This is a problem with emails and things - once it's sent, it's out in the bit wide world for all to see.  And it can be a lot easier venting at a computer screen than face to face.

John.

I don't know what the situation is either Anita so can't (and wouldn't want to) comment.  There does seem to be a fair amount of 'politics' in the modern jive world  :(

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone.

Just a short message from the Rock Bottoms team to say how sad we all are that the AChance2Dance Blackpool Modern Jive Competition is no more.

We were in the process of buying out Sue and Matt, and joining Tony and Angelina to offer you an even better event in 2010. Tony and Angelina agreed to the dissolving of Achance2dance under these circumstances, only to be double crossed by Sue and Matt who were planning a rival Blackpool competition. Rather than stoop to their level and enter into the ridiculous situation of 2 Blackpool competitions, we have had to bow out and leave Matt and Sue in control of the replacement competition.

At least Rock Bottoms only lost the time and effort of several weeks of negotiations. Tony and Angelina have lost the competition they have put their heart into over the past 9 years. We at Rock Bottoms certainly won’t be supporting this new competition, but of course whether you do or not is up to you.

Ah, information has been provided (many thanks).

This has also turned up on another jive forum.  You might like to read comments on http://www.mjda.org/forum/showthread.php?t=665

Hmmm.

I don't know the background to all this, but once again I see the usual two sides: "doing it for love of dance" or "doing it for love of money".

Re: the politics point, yes, there can be politics going on, but usually it stays fairly hidden, and what dancers see (as opposed to the organisers) can be quite a different thing indeed.  Some of it is just caused by miscommunication rather than malice though, which some people just don't get.

The only thing that gets me going is when other people try to muscle in on something good and ultimately destroy something that had real soul.

interesting point,

but the one venue that really had sole, the original Trinity venue  did not stop because of someone muscling in

BTW if you are a bloke, this is worth reading

beware, as you might expect  this book is not PC, green or organic

Yes, I had the email as well.

It is very sad, as Tony and Angelina ran this competition for some years and Tony was probably the best compare there is.  As I said, I am very, very sad to them go.

Re the airing of dirty linen in public, I'm not quite sure what to say about that.  I know that Andy and the Rock Bottoms crew are a really fun lot, but I don't know them personally.  I suppose they felt that the public should know what was happening.  However, for those of us who don't know them, or the politics, it doesn't give a 'feel good' factor.  Having said all of that, there have been quite a number of 'goings on' over the past year, in various quarters, so perhaps the team have just had enough and wanted to put the record straight?

Wishing them all the best for the future,

Elaine
