Hi All,
This is the first tea dance that I have been to, and I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive as I had the harshest of critics with me - my children!
The venue was the Filton Folk Centre - the usual location for the weekend dances, and as ever this was a clean, well-provisioned environment, and quite safe for children. We arrived just after opening, and promptly helped ourselves to chocolate corn-flake cakes, lemon cake, and (free) squash and coffees.
The music was the usual kind of mix - plenty to jive to, but not much of any other style such as ballroom. As I only know jive this was not a problem for me though! (Perhaps a few childrens' tracks or ballroom tracks may be useful in future - as there were quite a few people who looked like they could do ballroom there).
The cakes were certainly up to standard, and Sarah (alias Pricey from the forum) did a wonderful job as the food hostess.
Although Rebecca and Dylan (our 6 and 4 year old children) didn't mix with the other kids this time, I'm sure they would in future - it was all a bit new and they're quite shy initially. By the end of the time though they were running around a bit, joining in with the dancing a bit, and starting to relax and enjoy things.
It was very very nice seeing people a bit more socially, and being able to take the children along.
Although this was my first time at such an event, I was very pleased by how friendly and not business-like it seemed, and I am certainly going to make the effort to go along to the next one on the 21st February 2010.
I think that this kind of event injects a bit of much-needed soul and personality into the LeRoc scene, and I thoroughly applaud the effort made today.
Long may these events go on.
John.
P.S. The kids decided it was a good thing - they asked if they could stay all night! Honestly, you'd swear they were acting like grown-up dancers...

They're also asking when they can go again, though I don't know if that's because of the dancing or the 6 corn-flake cakes they each ate...
