Well, having babysitters is a good thing - it means we can get out a bit more often!

We took this opportunity to go to the Portishead LeRoc Rat Pack dance at Somerset Hall, and I am really glad I went.
The music was a superb mix of 40s/50s and modern swing and jive, smooth and silky with a few modern tracks thrown in here or there. I know that music is a personal preference but I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. It suited me down to the ground, and this showed - I danced all night until I was fit to drop.

The venue as ever was excellent - a nice floor (fast but not so fast that I needed trainers - spats were fine). The bar was good, and the tables were laid out nicely in theme with candles, confetti and even "gold" coins and nibbles. I'm a big fan of small details - to me it says that thought goes into something, and that is important.
| Now, onto the most interesting part of the evening - the outfits. Wow. Just wow. I always thought that seeing everyone dolled up at The Winter Ball was good, but seeing the sheer glamour of last night was breathtaking - the ladies excelled, with long gloves, pearls, hairdos and makeup in keeping with the era. The dresses were stunning - I really wished I had been born in that era. The men made an effort too - waistcoats, hats, suits, and general sharp appearances were order of the day. In short, fabulous, and prizes went out to the best-dressed ladies, including the most elegant and one for a lady who really did her homework and came as a "good time girl"! Respect for the effort. |
| Heather also had on a stunning outfit - very classy, and I had a great smooth dance with her. Guys, if you haven't danced with this lady yet then you're missing out on a real treat. | |
All in all, I had a great time, and really
really hope that Portishead LeRoc put on another such event with a similar theme, because that just seemed to fit together so nicely.
I'm keenly looking forward to the next one on the 25th May 2010. Send me details soon Portishead LeRoc so I can advertise it!

John.
