Valentine's day - anyone doing anything exciting?
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:25 PM »
Sue and I are staying in, and I'm cooking hunter's chicken (red wine and porcini mushroom sauce).  It's more fun than going out and scrumming down with millions of others going out tonight.

Anybody got any other plans?

John.

I have big plans to do nothing after spending most evenings rushing in from work and out dancing again.  It's fun, but I need a rest!!
We're also avoiding the restaurents (can't think of anything worse than paying over the odds to be surrounded by soppy couples) but might treat ourselves to a good film and a takeaway.

Need a rest???  At your tender age you should be able to dance 8 nights a week!

Ah well, my meal went down well.  Time to get the kids to bed now, then we'll watch this week's episode of Glee (recorded).

Anyway, soppy can be fun sometimes... but I agree, too much and it gets to "critical mass" and my head explodes.

How romantic : an evening in eating good nosh with and watching the box but being young and virile :idiot2:, i've had little time for food, getting into all sorts of fun positions: led underneath - feet first then head first, on top one or two feet on the ground as i struggle to change the water pump and belts of the old diesel. Got the battery on charge as although it is water tight and seems to have good compression, I suspect i've got the injection timing a bit advanced. Never mind did a few potatoes and a can a tuna with a bowl of green salad - no time for any shopping as I did my bit of pilates with grime. Hope the neighbours didn't hear me effing and blinding - seems to help maintain motivation.

Never mind - sorry for invoking the  'carma sutra'  :D - but no mention of politics, economics nor global warming.  >:D

Well, Valentine's Day was also the beginning of the Chinese New Year (made aware of this by son who has Chinese friends).  So we cooked a big stir fry in the huge wok (that is too heavy for me to lift when full of food) for the whole family including mother.  This was followed by viewing Winter Olympics.
It is now the Year of the Tiger.  :)

I was quite disappointed by the chinese calendar.

I wanted to be something dramatic like "leaping fire leopard" or whatever.

What am I?

A water rat.

Go figure :(

P.S. Jivedave, how did the injection on your "big end" go?  Sounds like a good activity for Valentine's day...

I too am a rat!  Don't be too disppointed John - the rat won the race! (although we did cheat slightly.....)

As for dancing 8 days a week - yes please!!  That's not the issue.  It's the rushing in from work, bolting down food, jumping in and out of the shower and rushing out of the door again which tires me out.

When I win the lottery I will dance full time :)

I can think of more pleasant ways of spending V day or any other, JG , but 'needs be, needs must' (hope i remembered that correctly). I'll give some details later. :o at the risk of boring people.

Briefly :D - Took the starter motor from my 'spare' mondeo and replaced the one on my car which has been misbehaving (some devious design features in the way it was clamped together with the g/box casing and engine mount - has to be removed). The starter is still a little noisy but started the car immediately.  I drove it over 30 miles today and it went better than before - so it seems the fuel injection had been quite retarded (i'll refrain >:D)

Summing up : i made a few mistakes - partly due to lack of info. in the manual from a popular publisher, making the job a bit more difficult and resulting in me damaging the plastic/fibre cover for the belts (so they are partly exposed and a little risky for fingers and people with long hair if they closely peruse the 'lump' when it's running - I'll fabricate something removable, so that i can examine the cam belt more easily)  The old alternator belt also appears to be slipping badly.

Fixing things fits in with my more parsimonious outlook though i always liked old cars even when I had a lot more dosh.  :idiot2: I'd rather invest in  know-how and equipment than some shiny new ironmongery (and doing my bit not to exacerbate the recently at £7,000,000,000 per month deficit in goods - sorry can't help it :idiot2: - we buy their goods, they buy us, with the aid of the financiers whom we bailed out >:D) i hope to keep the mondeo as i think we are starting understand each other better  :D

ps : think i'm a dragon
