A boobie-trapped question... (please excuse the pun)
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:08 PM »
OK, guys, here's a scenario for you.

You're on the dance floor, and unintentionally you end up with a handful of "lady" that you wouldn't normally come into contact with on a dance floor.  (This has happened to me on a few occasions - always by accident though).

What do you say to smooth over the incident?

Usually I would say "Oh gosh, sorry!" or something similar, but last night (having made the accidental contact) I said something a little out of character... "My compliments!".  Now this was a quote from one of the Sharpe programs, but I have to say that the response from the lady was quite surprising as it caused no small amount of amusement - and thankfully no offence was taken. :)

So I was just wondering how other guys deal with this kind of situation?

And ladies, if you want to chip in with the kinds of thing you would like to hear when such a thing occurs then that would be appreciated too!

John.

I think you were lucky John! Maybe the lady knew you and knew therefore that it was a genuine accident. With someone I know it would be laughed off--but!!--if someone I didn't know did it and then said 'my compliments', I would assume he meant to do it and was being sleazy and I wouldn't be best pleased-- I would probably walk off the  dancefloor! It's happened to me often--a genuine guy is usually embarrassed and simply says--I'm so sorry--or pretends it hasn't happened!! :)

Yes, the lady in question did know me fairly well and was familiar with my sense of humour :)

Maybe I'd better stick with the usual apology then!  (I wouldn't have given that response to a new / unknown dance partner though).

I just apologise and carry on with the dance. There's no point making a big thing of it, as these things are bound to happen sometimes.

John, you've been watching too much Sharpe!
