Bath or Nailsea?
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:22 PM »
So who is going to Bath and who is going to Nailsea tomorrow night ? I'm going to my more local dance--- which is Bath--(only takes about 20 minutes from my house)--think it will be very good too !  :)

I really enjoyed the last Nailsea dance I attended
but, the 1am finish , a live band, and an hour of blues, means Bath for me

I'll be dancing at Nailsea myself...

(I took the liberty of adding a poll to this topic too).

Like Anita I'll be going to my local dance but, in my case, that's Nailsea. Just 15 minutes from South Bristol.  :)

Nailsea - closer to home, and the floor is better there too.
Looking forward to it!

P.S. It is Diana's Dad's 81st Birthday today - Diana would like everyone who knows him to remember to wish him 'Happy Birthday' on arrival.  :)

For those of you who went to Nailsea I think you made the right choice. I have always enjoyed the dances at Nailsea and I reckon Diane  :smitten: :smitten: is a very good DJ and obviously a really brillant dancer.  She plays what I would call a very good selection of good "dancing" music and not "disco" music that they play at some dances in Bristol - you know who you are (and I don't mean Clifton Le Roc(!)). In the end I decided to go to Bath for a change and a lot of people felt the same as me about last week's "Big Bath Bash"  I have spoken to quite a few people since then who have said that it was a good night but the live band weren't very good. In fact the only proper "dancing" song they played was Mercy by Duffy and they even messed that up by playing it at the wrong speed  :uglystupid2: :idiot2: :crazy2: It is a shame as they normally play good music at their dances and it is a brilliant venue, the Bath Pavillions.  It also cost £12 on the door that night, yes £12!!!! and I am sorry but I would expect better than that for that kind of money.  Not only that you had to queue up for normal tap water and they charged you 5p! They should be doing more for the majority of people like me who don't drink and drive put the jugs of water on the bar for people to help themselves like they do at the BAWA and not charge for it. It was also worse because it was very very hot in there. I certainly won't be going to the next one if they have that band again, I can't even remember what they were called. I shall know where to go next time if there is a choice of dances on.

Indeed a good night. listening to Skarper's version of Mercy, did make one  appreciate the original Duffy version

Although £12 on the door, you could book on line for £10

The  5p for tap water is a one off charge  and  covers the cost for  the plastic beaker which can be refilled , without queuing, for free, you can even keep it and reuse it next time

Also, don't forget you got a lesson and a showcase with some top class dancers, (Richard & Zoe ), in with that price--and free tea ,coffee, cake & biscuits-- and after eights on the way out! --plus a very large, well decorated venue that I imagine must be quite expensive to hire-- & the event ran from 8pm-1am. I'm not a great one for dancing to bands, but the rest of the music was great. I'd rather pay a tenner for all that than £7/£8  for what you usually get.  :)

Well there's a challenge - some people just want to dance for the cheapest price possible, but sometimes it's nice to go to town a bit at a dance and have something different.

Personally I love all the variation in style and content between each of the dance nights.  O0

You can pay a lot less than £12 go to the BAWA. If you are a member as I am you only pay £5 on a Sunday night for great bands such as my favourite Earl Jackson, or the Atlantics, Flame, Darrel Higham and the Enforcers, to name but a few, or a damn good local band like The Heartbearts. Admittedly some of the bands there on Sunday nights aren't that great, like the ones that play a lot of that rockabilly stuff that I don't like. Also at the BAWA you get free parking, free water, a better dance floor and there are actually proper sinks in the gents' toilets which makes it easier to have a quick wash etc. When I go out for a dance I don't particularly want lessons, or a cabaret, or any competitions such as DWAS. I just wanna dance to some good "dancing" music whether it be a good band or a good DJ. That is why tonight I am going down to Melksham Assembly Rooms for a GingerJive Ceroc night. I know there were will be some brilliant music played the DJ, Ray, who always plays good "dancing" music as opposed to "disco" stuff, another superb venue and hopefully lots of lovely ladies for me to dance with.  There will be no lessons, no cabaret/show dances, no competitions, just dancing all night. Bring it on!
