Ginger Jive Dance at Melksham Friday 28th May 2010
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:34 PM »
Had a brilliant night last Friday at Melksham  O0 O0 O0.  It was a bit of a drive again to and from my old digs in Fishponds and I was really tired after a hard week at the office but once again I was really glad I made the effort. The DJ, Ray, played an excellent choice of music as always and though it was a bit quieter than normal due to the Bank Holiday and Half Term there were still loads of lovely ladies  :smitten: :smitten:for me to dance with. I took a mate of mine along who had never been to Melksham before and he really enjoyed it too. It was a night of just dancing: no lessons in moves that no one could do, or would want to do in normal dancing; no competitions - where you just had to sit or stand around and watch other people "poncing and mincing about" as I call it  :idiot2: :crazy2: :knuppel2:; show dances, ditto; or cabaret - just dancing all night. That is why I went and I was really looking forward to it, having been before, and I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.  As per usual every song that Ray played was, in my view, a good "dancing" song, it was a very good selection of different tempos and styles. It was just a shame that more people couldn't be there to appreciate the brilliant music. The tea, coffee etc., and cakes towards the end of the night was also very welcome. So, for those of you who have never been before or might be put off by driving all that way, I would suggest you give it a try - you won't be disappointed. Oh by the way, did I mention that there was free water and proper sinks in the Gents' toilets, and free parking....

Yes - the mind BOGgles.  >:D I can't recall an any establishment for the purpose of which lacked the necessary plumbing but as they say 'one can lead a sheep to water but you can't make it dip'

Using powers of lateral thought one could puts one's hands down the loo and get a friend to pull the flush  :D :idiot2: :D - it would be nice to have a friend  >:D >:D >:D

ps : i thought melksham was good when i went last year O0

At the Bath Pavillions in the gents' toilets, (and nowhere else I can think of), they have those built in nasty little metal "sinks" which are common in gents' public lavatories. There are normally 3 functions: soap, water and drying, and more than likely you will find that only 2 of the functions are actually working and that is on a good day, (or night(!)). Most often only the water function is working normally. I don't think they are very hygenic at all and are ok sometimes for washing your hands but that's as far as it goes. They are no good for blokes like me who like to keep fresh and make regular pit stops consisting of a wash, spray on a bit of deo and change of shirt during the night.  In my opinion, those "sinks" are about as popular as a french kiss at a family reunion and as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Mind you, even the BAWA aren't perfect in the gents' toilets department as some time ago they got rid of the good old fashioned but useful blue paper towels and put in those horrible blower drier monstrosities made by that geezer who makes those brightly coloured but not always efficient vacuum cleaners.  Anyway on a positive note I am really looking forward to Saturday when I shall be going to the Clifton Le Roc dance at the Filton Folk Centre. I don't think there are any competitions on this time and if there's one thing you can rely on at their dances is a brilliant choice of music to suit all tastes. So, I am hoping to dance all night as per usual. Oh, and they still have free water (with pint (plastic) glasses(!)), proper sinks and paper towels in the gents' toilets....  O0 O0 O0

Slow news day – so back to the loo. It wasn't too long ago a thread based on people (men) not washing their mitts after an inate ur was discussed on this very site.

For those who take things literally, I would like to reassure them that I wash mine EVERY time I 'go' (unless maybe in desperation I availed myself of a hedge) I once parked where I shouldn't have  and pulled up the bonnet (hood) of the car – to give a hint of legitimacy for stopping – while I nipped down the embankment. I guess if i'd had an empty bottle (which reminds me of a beer laden coach trip in Germany) I could have said it was to top-up an overheating rad.

I can understand why some venues go for the municipal  type plumbing solution, Bob describes, as there are some ejits who like to vandalise or leave taps running, at some expense. As i've gone for a water meter option at home, i am loathed to put fresh water down the loo and I'm developing a general aversion to spending which would certainly upset the people who want a return/continuation of profligate living - cue Marc ;)

For those who want to avoid the Sun and, here he is reporting to a room full of conspiracy theorists with a quote “we've got to get those b*st*rds spending”

and advice to keep money in your own economy:

"The federal government is sending each of us a $600 rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money goes to China. If we spend it on gasoline it goes to the Arabs. If we buy a computer it will go to India. If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If we purchase a good car it will go to Germany. If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy. The only way to keep that money here at home is to spend it on prostitutes and beer, since these are the only products still produced in US. I've been doing my part."

- though, one doesn't need to indulge in LOOed behaviour to keep the money local - one can just go dancing - like at Filton tonight. :D :D :D

8/6/10 : ps : by 'local', i meant within the UK (as i know people from outside the area attend dances, locally) Must get out more myself, eg: trying la attica again this Sat. after engineering (bodging) a speedo cable repair for my old mondeo - the main dealers (BF) told me the cable was in 2 sections and required total replacement - which they allowed 4.5 hours w/shop time (> the value of the car) but then informed that the cable was no longer available - so i found an old Maestro inner cable, cut it to length and fitted the connector from the broken cable, ejaculated some oil >:D- very satisfying - into the cable cover and reassembled. It was a long cable, so it will need a long road test - to cirencester. Just in case, i noted the rev counter reading v. road speed in case it fails again. ;) Modern cars have obviated the need for cables as it's all electronic and linked to the engine management - so when that fails you're completely ****** :idiot2:
