Help! Dancer in Distress!
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:22 PM »
I've recently had to move to Weston Super Mare and it is a shell of a town at best. I can't find any dancing there or nearby that might cater for me.

If anyone knows any dancing that you can do in, or in close proximity to, Weston then please speak up! Any suggestions welcome- I will do anything to keep my hand in or to improve my dance craft. LeRoc, Ballroom, West Coast, Salsa, Tango, Street, Hip Hop, Tap, Line Dancing... anything. Maybe not ballet.

FYI, Bristol isn't close to Weston for the purposes of this- not for week nights anyway. Work is too stressful and too long atm.

Thank you lovely people!

How about the Portishead or Nailsea classes?  They're down in that neck of the woods...

John.
The Bristol LeRoc / modern jive dance classes are diverse and provide a blend of teaching styles and music styles that are complimentary. If you want to keep them... go to your classes and support them! Check out the free dance, music and theatre clipart images in the new Clipart Library

Several people have tried to start MJ and Tango  classes in WSM but they have all failed

Taunton and Bridgewater are a similar distance to Bristol

http://www.jiveclasses.co.uk/

But I think there are weekly Ballroom classes at the Winter Gardens

at least you wont have far to go to the Weston, Ball
and Franco has a weekender coming up at Sand Bay

Salsa on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Portishead on Thursdays sounds good, but keep them rolling in!

Ooh, if Ballroom is an option, that comes (inevitably - given that it's me) highly recommended.  Most of the lessons teach all the Moderns and Latins so you (over time - they usually only do a few at a time) get to lean 10 different dances - with lots of moves and styling that are transferable to MJ.

Hi, could I ask you all a favour? I'm looking for a lady about my age (18-28) to learn latin and ballroom with, and to train with, in Weston Super Mare. Previous dance experience preferable. Please pass it on!!
Interested? Message me.

In fact, if anyone has any other suggestions where I might look for a partner then please speak up! I can't even go along and hope to meet someone because you have to take a partner to their lessons. I'd taken for granted how sociable LeRoc is!

Phil, I finally made time to go along to burning salsa tonight. I turned up at the right place but all the hotel staff denied all knowledge.  :(

Do you know for sure that burning salsa is still going? It seems likely that they have folded. As if dancing in Weston could be more bleak  :'( This town sucks.

Salsa clubs tend to flit between venues at a moments notice -- so it may still be going.

Try asking on www.salsacardiff.com or possibly http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8734932669

There doesn't seem to be too much on www.salsajive.co.uk -- but there is a weekender coming up at Brean, whch is down the road from Weston :-)

Cheers,
SpinDr

Of all the dumb mistakes to make. To never bother checking the most obvious source of dancing in the UK, and then to not dance for 9 months when there is a dance class 5 minutes walk from my door. Say one good thing for CeRoc; they get around.

Epic Fail.

Also salsa is coming to the pier at Weston in November -- http://www.abanicosalsa.com/grand_pier.htm -- the webpage is a little sparse, but I found leaflets on Saturday at the Almondsbury dance.

Cheers,

Thank you. Fortunately I returned to civilization in Bristol in June, but hopefully this will help someone else.
