Memberships: Ceroc vs LeRoc?
« on: September 27, 2010, 01:40 PM »
OK here's a question (two to be precise)... but they're related.

Ceroc seem to have a membership fee when you join up.
What is this extra fee for, and what benefits does membership bring?

In a parallel thread, LeRoc doesn't (as far as I'm aware) have an equivalent membership.
If it did, what benefits would you like to see for members?

John.

The big advantage ( to  Ceroc Enterprises Ltd)
is that you agree to there rules
http://www.ceroc.com/ceroc_membership.html

The benefit (to you ) is that, unless, under rule 1,  they refuse you admission, you can go their classes and events

I am surprised that no Leroc clubs/ venues seem to have a membership scheme
There are advantages to the organisers in that every agrees to the rules
The reason for the fee is that it helps the  organisers prove you joined
You can of course sneak in with out paying but again the organisers can reasonably say you should not be there and ask you to leave

I'm aware of various loyalty schemes in LeRoc:
- Go to x classes, get a free one,
- Bring a friend, get a free class, etc.

Not aware of any membership things as such though, or (indeed) of anyone tracking members per se.

Personally I'm not interested in memberships, but I am interested in free classes, even if it means a bit of legwork to bring a friend.

Provided you give the  local Ceroc class your e mail, they do somtimes send out free offers
NB the franchisees do not share e mail lists, so you need to sign up with all the ones in your aerial

I'm signed up with Ceroc Essex - never got a free class offer from them! :)

Not that it would make a difference - it's a bit far to go for a dance.

I've added a poll to the topic just to see what people think.

Out of curiosity, doesn't the membership thing just give you £1 off entry or something?  Can't you just go to the events anyway and pay normally?

No I think you need a membership card to get in

I guess that being members of something gives some people a sense of belonging etc.  I joined Ceroc to go to a dance, but was quite bothered by the small print on the back of the bit of paper when I read it later.  I doubt many people ever read the small print though.

The card is scanned at each visit so they keep a track on who is going where - if you haven't been for a while a free class or dance offer is emailed to tempt you back and keep their numbers up at dances.

Any chance of scanning it and posting it on here?

Free offers are member, event  and date  specific and cannot be transferred
you need your membership card to redeem it

.....to sign up with all the ones in your aerial

That's PM barred ... Aerials ( rule 8 ) are definitely verboten ... it's so that secret moves cannot be transmuted to the outside world :D ;) :D

...but i wonder what the implications of rule 4, relating to the secret rites (wrong rights!) performed in class overlapping (being the same) those of Leroc, might be >:D That is, people who teach Leroc might also attend Ceroc classes. (See links in PM's and Pricey's posts)

Generally, I've found the Ceroc classes I've attended to be  very well run though generally a couple of pounds more expensive than the local Leroc ones.

Overall, I think there are lots of very alarming things and organisations to worry my pretty little head  ??? about (and I don't mean: can i get a bigger TV than my neighbour, he's got a BM so I need a Merc, are my shades cool enough and who's winning x-factor,etc) and so it wouldn't worry me if the brand of Jive begins with an L or C (though it's probably good that no monopoly exists!) and if I get an email, now and then or if I pay a quid for a plastic card - having it scanned could provide a useful alibi >:D

I find this one interesting:

Quote
6. You agree that you shall not approach Ceroc members with a view to encouraging or procuring them to attend any dance function and alternatively dance class of whatsoever nature being held by you or your principal for which an admission fee (howsoever described) is payable.

Especially since, if you do a search for "leroc bristol" you get the attached set of results - i.e. Ceroc are paying google to route Leroc customers over to the Ceroc website...

That's a little... oh, what's the word?

* See the "Sponsored Links" section on the right hand side.  "Leroc - stay fit, energetic & meet nice people.  Beginners welcome!  www.Ceroc.com"

Out of curiosity, if I started advertising Ceroc and routed them to my website instead, does anybody know what the result would be?

Ceroc is a registrared Trade Mark and you would be committing an  infringement,  of the exclusive rights attaching to a trademark without the authorization of the trademark owner or any licensees

OK, so how does that sit with LeRoc being trademarked then?
