What do women want in a male dancer?
« on: February 01, 2011, 11:16 PM »
Slight change of direction. This is a question for our female counterparts  .What do you like to see in a male  dancer ,for example . A strong lead when dancing or easy to follow routines ,do you hate a dance lesson in the middle of a dance because he has not lead the figure clear enough. Would soft hands be a bonus or smell nice. Ladies this is your chance to have your say, remember it takes two to tango.

I've moved this one from 'Fancy Dress' to start new discussion.

Here's my views on this one!

I really do not like dance lessons in the middle of a freestyle dance  ::). If a man can lead well there is no need for this, as usually the woman can follow, but in the event of her not following, a good male dancer smiles sweetly and carries on with another move instead, with no interruption to the dance  :).   At the end of the dance the male could ask the lady if she'd like to learn a new move.

Soft hands are nicer than rough hands but everyone has to do a bit of DIY now and then!

Leads should be clear and strong but not forceful.

 :)

As the saying goes "were the women follows the man must lead" ;)

No lessons in the middle of a really good track thanks! >:( (unless you're dance partners who've agreed to practise that is)
Why the soft hands? For women, yes--but since when are real men supposed to have soft hands !! I find soft white hands on a man a bit of a turn-off  :buck2:--I mean,--how much work can they actually be doing ??
But a definite yes to fresh clothes and a clean smell--surprisingly there are numerous men out there who still can't get their heads round this one !!
Then to the dancing!! They need a sense of rhythm so they're actually dancing to the beat of the music that's on--not something else! (believe it or not, it does happen--often!) Then well- led, ( i.e. clear but light ), interesting, varied moves , that interpret the song that's actually playing-- ie the type of moves fit the style of music playing--is there REALLY any point bouncing around to a love song or blues--or ever really?? ??? And  please have the sensitivity to feel when your partner wants to do something to interpret the music--and not just yank her on to the next move!!  There are SO few men who can do this  ::)
Also--look after you lady on the dance floor and don't send her crashing into other dancers  :tickedoff:. And, do all this with a smile and without arrogance!! Believe it or not there are a few--but only a very few, men who can do all this--thank god !!

Well well well it seems Anita, you and karen know what you want from a male dancer .All the other females must  be quite happy with there male counterparts, but it is nice to hear your views and promoting better standards of dance within the social dance scene .

A gentleman should always aspire to better himself.

Well the discussion seemed to focus on what ladies like in a man.

Perhaps I am old fashioned, but I feel that a lady is a good reason for a man to aspire to better manners and ettiquette.

This seems to be an  interesting subject John . It seems two ladies know what they want from a male dancer. The other 98% of female dancers, do not mind if a man gives off a wiff of body odour as long as he can lift one arm and move his feet on beat or off beat . It looks like we have one guy roughing his hands up for you lovely ladies doing a bit of do it yourself.
