Would you like to Leroc to Rock music?
« on: June 19, 2011, 05:45 PM »
We enjoy dancing leroc to rock music.  It is possible, we had a great time dancing to the music of TRex at the Fiddlers a couple of weeks ago.  It would be brilliant if more rock music were played at leroc freestyles, but organisers seem to be terrified to play rock in case it frightens people away!

So what do forum readers think?

I don't mind dancing to the odd one or two rock numbers during an evening and they are played sometimes-- ( Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen & the Doors spring to mind) Not sure about T Rex though--never a fan--are they classed as Rock ? But I think one or two at most per hour would be enough. Lots more Blues should be played though--as it is at Ceroc venues --but sadly lacking at most Bristol leroc dances. Think Blues is important because the different speed/mood gives people the opportunity to vary their style of dance. Nothing worse than going to a dance and having the same 'thumpty- thump' music all night!! And definitely no rock and roll please !!  >:(  ;)

Not all slow music is Blues and I can’t say I’ve hear much traditional Blues in with the “smooth utopia sounds” played at Ceroc dances. For me a good example of slow blues would be something like the Rolling Stones cover of Howling Wolf’s Little Red Rooster.

Not all Blues is slow. John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom is a good old fashioned foot tapper.

 :D
I’ve always found Leroc dances slow the tempo later in the evening although they do seem to go for more Jazz/Blues like Nina Simone singing Feeling Good.

But that is just fine with me.
 ;)

Nice tracks Nick  O0

We are clearly going to different Leroc events
I cannot imagine, Nailsea Leroc  playing  Nina Simone .
If you are very lucky,   Trinity might play it  just before 1 pm, when most people have left
Cloud 9 did play some beautiful utopia style music, early in the evening, at there last free style,  but things speeded up, as the evening progress , I left when they got to the bongo song

Agreed

The great thing about MJ, unlike Salsa, it can be danced to a very wide variety of music

So anything to make a change from the same repetitive  thumpy bunny tracks that get  played again and again would be welcome.   Yes a bit of Rock, from time to time, would be OK

Karen,
I think you missed the evening when a certain DJ played
Bryan Adams all night and I do mean all night  ::)

I like the idea of a little more rock at MJ gigs if those are the kind of tracks you're suggesting. But since 'rock' is the most enormous music genre imaginable, what other kind of things would you dance to? Any more contemporary tracks? I had rather good dance to Kings of Leon the other week for example.

Thoughts?
