6th June - The Worst Sound System Ever

The Worst Sound System Ever![/size]
Last night's class at The Folk House was the worst class I've ever been to.   :(

Usually it is a real fun class to go to. John and Jacquie do some good moves and always make people laugh and have a good time.

John was away this week so last night there were guest teachers. I turned up for the freestyle between classes. I have never heard such an awful sound system in my life.  :o

It is a fair sized room with high ceilings but the guest teachers decided to use their own portable stereo with tiny built in speakers  ::) rather than the usual sound system which was available. Perhaps they normally teach in a smaller room with a low ceiling  ???

The sound from the speakers was mostly absorbed by those at the front. In the back half of the room it was often not possible to even tell what song was playing, let alone follow a beat. Quite a few of us gave up after a couple of tracks and went to the pub instead. The moves taught may well have been good but we'd all lost patience by then.

Hopefully next week everything will be back to normal...

I agree that the sound wasn't good but was at back of class and could hear (definitely Lightning Seeds). There seemed to be a lot of chatting at times. As for the moves it did seem that the lesson was more disjointed than usual (more frequent partner changes) but I did enjoy the intermdiate moves - even without the slightly risque (where's me accent - and I don't mean Geordie) final one. >:D

Yup - I agree. That geordie accent is far too risqué. :o

What were the moves?

:-[  Soooooo SORRY GUY'S.  WE DIDN'T REALISE IT WAS THAT BAD AT THE BACK.  UNFORTUNATELY OUR MAIN SYSTEM WAS BEING USED BY SOME OF OUR OTHER TEACHERS LAST NIGHT AND WE DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM IN THE HALL OTHERWISE WE WOULD HAVE PLUGGED INTO IT (IT ALL SEEMED TO BE LOCKED UP!).

SO NOW I'M CONVINCED, MY WIFE'S BEEN TELLING ME THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, SO ANYBODY WANT A FREE SOUND SYSTEM!  IT'S REALLY NOT BAD, BUT IN A SMALLER ROOM!!!!!!!

Yes, agree regarding both the choice of music and the sound which was terrible!! But it appears to be just a one-off thank goodness!!

Hi Mark, is it possible that you were the Leroc teacher, as (apart from John,Jacquie and Nick) I don't know the names of the Folkhouse Folk? If so what were the names of the intermediate moves?

Thanks Mark. I'd like to discuss the YYBJ for some fun but fear for the sensitivities of others.

Hi Mark, I hope my comments didn't cause offence? Quite a few people were muttering about it so I thought that someone ought to say something. Good luck with the stereo shopping!

No offence taken.  Honest!

We've taught a few times for John and always been able to plug into the system but this time it was all locked up and I'd be the first to admit that the system we brought is not desined on its own for use in such a large room, so please pass on my appologies to all those who mutter.

If we ever get invited back after this, I'll make sure we bring the real ghetto blaster!!!

For Jivedave only, just in case other sensitive people are subscribing, here is what you need for the YOYO BOOB JOB:

Start on the Right with a normal Yoyo and offer your Left behind as you pivot the lady out.

Place both of your and your partners hands into the small of your back and at the same time turn yourself half a turn a-clockwise, ducking down so you head goes in between the ladies arms, so you are now facing her, your head at her waist height.

At this point raise your head slowly (possibly over 2 to 3 beats, especially as she may have looked down to see what you are up to).  As you start to straighten up, let go of the ladies hands so she can place them on your shoulders.

As you come back up to full height, step back and collect with the left.

Note: To really avoid brushing the ladies you know what's, it is sometimes a good idea, depending on your position to take a step back slightly as you slowly straighten back up, presenting a slightly larger gap between you.  Failing that, if your bald like me, you can use this as the opportunity to wipe the top of your napper!!!!!!!

Practice and enjoy, but whatch your partners face as you stand up - please!

P.S.  The accent is YORKSHIRE, mixed with a rather large tinge of Jock, but it must have been the sound system!!!

Yes, I know this one - I think Viktor taught that one last year at St Bons and I remember when Calvin did it with me, his head got head stuck!   ;D  :o  ;D  Good thing we both have a sense of humour!!!  Suggest this one is only carried out with the willing!!   ;D

Thanks again Mark (could have sworn the accent was Tyneside). It's quite clear that others are disregarding the classified nature of the sensitive  instruction (no doubt for their own titillation) you have imparted. I, of course, can rise above such a primitive plain to appreciate the true aesthetics of the dance's moves. However, should I find a partner with the required appendages I will probably not have the b**** (nor skill) to try the move.

Being more serious, I could ask what people think about the occasional ACCIDENTAL bodilly contact but fear I may open up a 'whole can of worms'.

Hi Graham,

Yes it was a genuine offer, but unfortunately one of my pupils had it away last after class .... another budding DJ (I hope not :-\).

JiveDave,

Leave the worms in the can!!

you're right Mark. I did feel a "don't mention the war moment" but 6.5 years working in scunny, I can only think had a laxative effect on my thought processes. I don't mean that I talk cr*p all the time but tend to say what's on my mind. Personally, I prefer the more open flowing moves than the intimate stuff - if only the batteries wouldn't run flat.
