A convenient night (apart from also the late work thing), and nice to see the Hope Centre back in use for Tango.

Still I think I'll give it a miss until I understand more than a couple of these - maybe next year.

Workshop themes
21 July - barridas
28 July - giros
4 Aug - enrosques
11 Aug - decorations
18 Aug - ganchos
25 Aug - sacadas

Nope, I don't know what any of these mean either, but I love them!!!   ;D

Last nights class started off with connection.  The Lady puts her hand on the man's chest and has to 'feel' his movement/direction - this is fabulous if you want to be able to follow well.

The rest of the class I can't really explain, except that I did my best to follow and thorougly enjoyed it!!  We did a move where the Gentleman traps the Lady's leg with his own and then swings it back and forth and when he lets go, the Lady can swing her leg upwards quite high.  A bit like the trailer on BBC one!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes and then off to the Adam and Eve for a swift drink!

These six classes are designed for people who have some basic understanding of Tango, but Eduardo will start a beginners class in September.  He is teaching with the absolutely divine Micha and they are a wonderful pairing!  If you are really keen, Eduardo will give private lessons earlier in the evening, before the class starts.

Can't be there next Thursday, but we will make all the others!

Eduardo is fantastic.  He opened my eyes to Tango about 3 years ago.  I'd done some workshops and some lessons with Ruth and Fernando (both excellent teachers) and then Julie and I had a private lesson with Eduardo at a "Tango Mango" in Totnes.  I was hooked already but hadn't really "felt" Tango until that class.  It was as if the scales had fallen from my eyes and I saw what an incredible, beautiful, absorbing, tantalising and wonderful dance it really is.  I haven't been to Bristol or seen Eduardo for a couple of years - we must come up sometime soon.

Julie and I had a brilliant week of dancing Tango at www.tangovalley.com earlier in August.  If you get the bug then this the place to go next summer - they do beginner weeks and four categories ranging from 1 years experience to the highly accomplished. It's just so wonderful to be able to immerse yourself in the dance for a whole week - between bathing under the waterfalls, eating ice-creams and drinking wine. The dance floor is open all the time and you can eat grapes from the vine that grows inside the roof! You don't carry keys, credit cards, money or mobile phone - just your dance shoes. We did the "A" category week last year with Komala and Stevan who teach in Nijmegen and this year took a deep breath and did the "C" category week with Oliver and Marisa from Brussels. I can only say that Oliver and Marisa are quite brilliant both as dancers and teachers.  We learnt so much.

Don't wait! Tango is fantastic and you've got a really good teacher right on your door step.

Eduardo is starting his beginners Tango tonight at the Hope Chappel, Hotwells.  The beginners starts at 8.00pm and the improvers starts at 9.30pm.  :)

For those of you who can't make Thursdays, if you can come along to Simon's birthday bash on Saturday 15 October, 2005, you will see Eduardo in action with Mischa - you may then decide to change your plans and get to Tango after all!

See you there...........

For those of you who feel LeRoc in Bristol is " getting a bit stale?
May be its time to change direction
Eduardo is a superb teacher   and the classes are quite small
Don?t be afraid to go on your own as you will  find a few familiar faces
and   every one is  very friendly
Music comes from a ghetto blaster and no radio mike is used but as the class is small it does not seem to matter
In any case Eduardo teaches by example and gestures, rather than telling what to do

Yup, totally agree with all the above!

Tango is a fanastic dance discipline.  All the skills you learn in Tango can be brought back to Leroc at a later date - and will make you a much better dancer!  ...oh yes - it's alot of fun as well - just a different perspective.

PS:
I personally think Elaine likes Eduardo so much - because of his awfully sexy argentenian accent..!   ;)   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I tried a few lessons early in the year & really enjoyed myself, lovely ladies, marginal politics (hurrah!) & dancing to the max, but Tango West hiked up the prices on friday & introduced compulsory workshops for beginners at a time when my car became a money pit,
so I quit. The new classes as u know clash with CerOc on thursday where I am taxi dancing, but I will have a go again if poss,

Phil are u saying I shoul dquit LeRoc - cos I will continue to speak my views until someone takes me up in a balloon & decides to throw me out of it...;-)
..never say goodbye..

Yes, I think Tango West may have shot themselves in the foot with the hype in prices!  Thankfully, Eduardo is a bit more realistic on the price front.

Hey and Marty - the Argentinian accent - yes, you were right, until I had my first dance with him and now I am totally in awe of the man!

From the web sites the prices look pretty much equivalent to me.

The big difference in price seems to be where there are visiting teachers at Tango West -  wonder how well Modern Jive classes would fare with a similar model.
