Ceroc in Bath and Chippenham 2006
« on: December 08, 2005, 12:07 PM »
Strayed over to Ceroc Swindon last night (and spotted a familiar tall, dark and handsome dancer on my travels! ;)) where the class was informed of the franchise's expansion plans starting March 2006  :o :o.  New weekly classes will run at:

- Bath on Tuesday nights to be held at the Pavillion (don't know this venue)
- Chippenham on Thursday nights to be held at the Olympiad Leisure Centre (where I go swimming and play footie in my lunchtimes! :D)

I think the team is managed by Richard and Maddy, very nice people from what I can tell.  I think Richard said the expansion will make it his full-time job.  Fair play for having the bottle and enthusiasm, I say.  8)

What do people reckon?  The Ceroc pincer movement around Bristol appears to be gathering momentum!  ??? :o

Ceroc is spreading quite a bit.. with classes in Thornbury and also soon to be Cardiff!

This will certainly expand the Modern Jive Scene in Cardiff...

The Pavillion is a good venue - used for lots of gigs (Saw Courtney Pine there). Big floor but I don't know if it's sprung or not

I think its sprung, but when I last danced there it was very sticky, and quite a strain on the knees. I would be surprised if Bath could support 2 Jive nights, but we shall see. Ceroc had a franchise in Bath before, but closed it down.

I don't know how much impact Ce Roc will have on Cardiff and Bath - there is only one MJ class in each of these Cities, so perhaps the more classes, the more people will dance and therefore benefit us all?  Presumably they will run on different nights as well, so there should not be a clash of interests.  As for freestyle nights, again, I would hope they won't try to run on the same evenings.

As for Bristol, well that could be interesting.  We have well established classes, two on most nights, with Tuesday having three classes to delight us.  Ce Roc though has a dynamic advertising campaign and being a new venture, will no doubt interest the punter in a visit or two.  I would think that any foray into Bristol will really depend upon a suitable venue.

I think the Chippenham class has now started.  Bath starts tomorrow night with free entry for the first two weeks http://www.ceroclive.com/venue_tue.php.  Anyone planning on going?  ^-^

For those of you who are going - enjoy and report back please!

I went to Chippenham last Thursday, and will go to the Bath Pavilion tomorrow.

Chippenham was good - very busy, excellent value (free entry!!), a selection of the great and the good from the Swindon/Bath area, and a few out from Bristol as well. Nice venue, car park was big but nearly full at 9pm (free parking from 8pm). The hall is easy to find being almost exactly opposite the station. Good floor, separate bar area, overhead booth for the DJ, free mints. Tuition was good, in a very Ceroc style, a couple of nice moves I will incorporate into freestyle (I couldn't work out why I was finishing the intermediate routine 2 beats before everyone else, until I realised they had put in a return before the sway, which I - being a good LeRoc boy - had mentally filtered out).

Excellent dances with Lou, Christine, and many others, plus a compliment from the teacher as I left (I have been suffering from a big head ever since!)

Yeah for the MITIE Girls!  ;D

Thanks for the dance Nick - 'twas fab. As was Tango In Harlem with the lovely Richard. There was a post here many moons ago, about what you should do for musicality for the rude bit. Richard was amused by my interpretation.....  ;D

I'll probably try out the Pavillion. It's free.  :)

That always puzzles me. What was the solution?

Bath Pavilion, Tues 14th

Also very busy, but the pavilion is a HUGE venue so even with 4 rows of beginners there was plenty of space. A good half of the ladies I spoke to were down from Swindon, presumably to help kick things off, so the big test will come in a couple of weeks when we see what the levels of local support are. A good few sprinkling from the Bath area, and a few notables out from Bristol - Shera and Mr GW, Sherif, Simon etc.

Good music, good dancing, easy venue to find, plenty of parking, big separate bar area, and for the first time in my life, a jive venue I can walk to from home. A basic set of moves last night, which is appropriate for an opening night.

HOWEVER - the floor is grim. It looks like lino over concrete. Many people were complaining of sore thighs/knees/lower back at the end of the night, some found it slippy, some found it sticky, depending (I think) on what soles you were wearing. Which is a pity because otherwise, as a venue, it has a lot going for it.
