Ladies - what are you looking for in a dance!
« on: January 19, 2005, 01:19 PM »

Thought some of you may be interested in this post from 'the other place' - (I have permission to post it by the Lady who penned it).  This post sums up dancing for me as well.  ;D

'I liken a dance to a conversation between two people...

The music is the subject....

I hate it when the conversation is one too sided... I like to be listened too as well

It's fabulous when I feel I've learnt something, having someone share there knowledge with me, makes me feel richer for the experience

I hate being shouted at or talked down to, it's very frustrating when someone's just likes to listen to the sound of their own voice, yes, we can hear you but your talking crap!

Banter and wit, is always very welcome!

And some of the sweetest conversations are almost whispered, very subtle indeed, you feel totally relaxed and in tune with your partner, there's no need to prove anything cos you already agree on the subject. '

 iagree

It's just fab when you find out you're on the same wavelength as the person you're dancing with, and the "conversation" just flows.  :)

I hate it when a move goes wrong & the chap turns around and says - "Oh, don't you know that one?" It's just like being in a conversation when you don't understand what someone is trying to say. If they go back & say it a different way, or make their meaning clearer, then it's far easier to grasp!

Oh, and I'm trying my hardest not to complete people's sentences on their behalf....  ;)

The analogy of a conversation is a good one
It?s the same for us blokes
We need feedback
A laugh, a smile, sometime a pout and the occasional scream makes all the difference

OK I?m going slightly off topic

As you say the music is the subject

But many lessons are largely without music

The only instructors who seem to match a routine to music are Mark and Jackie

Lynda Britton is also very good at matching the music to the routine being taught--last weeks funky routine and music @ Kingswood being a case in point.
